ERA public consultation

The European Commission invites citizens and other stakeholders to contribute to the development of the European Research Area (ERA) by participating in the online ERA consultation. The consultation takes the form of a questionnaire, the contents of which reflect and expand upon the questions and issues raised in the Green Paper “The European Research Area: New Perspectives”.

The results of the online consultation will be used by the Commission, in conjunction with other inputs, to support proposals for the future development of ERA. These proposals will be published in 2008.

The public consultation was launched on 1 May 2007 and will be open until 31 August 2007.

FP7 – ICT event in Budapest

A partnering event entitled ‘FP7-ICT cooperation market for successful international networking with focus on broadband communications’ will take place on 5 July in Budapest, Hungary, as part of the 16th Mobile and Wireless Communication Summit.

The networking event, co-organised by five EU-funded projects (EPISTEP, HAGRID, Hungary for FP6, Ideal-ist, Star-Net), will have the twin aims of increasing awareness of Strategic Research Agendas (SRA) of European Technology Platforms (ETPs) and their status in the forthcoming calls, and secondly helping researchers find partners for future proposals in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Applications.

The morning of the event will feature plenary sessions on the SRAs of the ETPs, while the afternoon will be devoted to bilateral meetings.

ERC Statement on the 2007 Starting Grant competition

The European Research Council (ERC) has provided further information on the 9,167 applications received for the ERC’s first round of grants, the Starting Grants for independent researchers.

In April the ERC’s Scientific Council announced how many applications had been received, and the figure of 9,167 was much higher than many were expecting. Now the Scientific Council has given details of how many of the applications address each of the three domains outlined in the call for proposals, which countries the applications have come from, and how many people have applied to be a member of the evaluation panels charged with reviewing the proposals.

EuroNanoForum 2007

Nanotechnology in Industrial Applications
June 19 – 21, 2007, CCD Düsseldorf, Germany

The EuroNanoForum 2007 will be the most important European congress for the transfer of nanotechnology from research into industrial production processes, products and applications. It brings together excellent scientists with leading researchers and managers from industry.

The EuroNanoForum 2007 will be held at the Congress Center Düsseldorf from June 19 to 21, 2007 and will be organised on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and promoted by the European Commission. The excellent conference programme with international top speakers will present the state-of-the-art nanotechnology for industrial applications and open up new perspectives in Europe for the coming years. Temes del 7è PM

El 7PM presenta marcats trets de continuïtat amb el seu predecessor, principalment pel que fa als temes coberts en el programa Cooperació. Els temes fixats per a aquest programa es corresponen amb camps importants en el progrés del coneixement i la tecnologia, en els quals la recerca s’ha de basar i reforçar per afrontar els reptes socials, econòmics, ecològics i industrials d’Europa. L’objectiu general és contribuir al desenvolupament sostenible.

Els deu temes que s’han proposat per a l’actuació comunitària són els següents:

- Salut
- Alimentació, agricultura i pesca, biotecnologia
- Tecnologies de la informació i la comunicació (TIC)
- Nanociències, nanotecnologies, materials i noves tecnologies de producció
- Energia
- Medi ambient (inclòs el canvi climàtic)
- Transport (inclosa l’aeronàutica)
- Ciències socioeconòmiques i humanitats
- Espai
- Seguretat

Hi ha dos temes més coberts pel Programa Marc d’Euratom:

- Recerca sobre l’energia de fusió
- Fissió nuclear i radioprotecció

Pel que fa a temàtiques específiques de rellevància industrial, els temes s’han establert tenint en compte, entre altres fonts, la tasca de les diferents “Plataformes Tecnològiques Europees”.

Programes del 7è PM

El 7è Programa Marc està organitzat en quatre programes que es corresponen amb quatre components bàsics de la recerca europea:

Cooperació

Es donarà suport a tota la gama d’activitats de recerca realitzades mitjançant la cooperació transnacional, des dels projectes i xarxes en col·laboració a la coordinació dels programes de recerca de cada país. La cooperació internacional entre la UE i tercers països és part integrant d’aquesta acció.

Aquesta acció està orientada a la indústria i s’organitza en quatre subprogrames:

- La recerca col·laborativa constituirà el gruix del finançament comunitari a la recerca i el seu nucli fonamental
- Les Iniciatives Tecnològiques Conjuntes es crearan a partir de la tasca realitzada per les Plataformes Tecnològiques Europees
- Coordinació dels programes de recerca no comunitaris
- Cooperació internacional

Idees

Aquest programa augmentarà el dinamisme, la creativitat i l’excel·lència de la recerca europea a les fronteres del coneixement en tots els àmbits científics i tecnològics, incloent-hi l’enginyeria, les ciències socioeconòmiques i les humanitats. Aquesta acció serà supervisada pel Consell Europeu de Recerca.

Persones

Reforç quantitatiu i qualitatiu dels recursos humans de la recerca i la tecnologia d’Europa posant en pràctica un conjunt coherent d’accions Marie Curie.

Capacitats

L’objectiu d’aquesta acció és donar suport a les infraestructures de recerca, la recerca en benefici de les PIME i el potencial de recerca de les regions europees (Regions del Coneixement), així com estimular el total desplegament del potencial de recerca de la Unió ampliada i construir una societat del coneixement europea eficaç i democràtica.

Cadascun d’aquests programes està supeditat a un programa específic. A més, hi ha un ‘programa específic’ per al Centre Comú de Recerca (activitats no nuclears) i un altre per a les accions de recerca i formació en matèria nuclear d’Euratom.

El 7è Programa Marc

Els ‘Programes Marc’ (PM) han esdevingut els principals instruments de finançament per mitjà dels quals la Unió Europea dóna suport a les activitats de recerca i desenvolupament, abastant pràcticament la totalitat de disciplines científiques. Els PM són proposats per la Comissió Europea i adoptats pel Consell i el Parlament Europeu seguint un procediment de decisió conjunta.

Els PM s’han aplicat des de 1984 i tenen una durada de cinc anys, solapant-se el darrer any de cada PM i el primer del següent. No obstant això, el 7è Programa Marc tindrà una durada de set anys. Es troba plenament operatiu des del passat 1 de gener de 2007 i finalitzarà el 2013. Està dissenyat per a oferir continuïtat als resultats del programa marc anterior, cap a la creació de l’espai europeu de recerca, i dur-lo més enllà, fins el desenvolupament a Europa de l’economia i la societat del coneixement.
